Our logs are dried and preserved using a specialised drying process known as kiln drying. It involves placing our logs in a specially designed construction (the kiln), this helps to reduce moisture content, control pests and fungus, and enhance the wood for maximum strength and long-lasting durability. 

Minimum Moisture Content 

Our tried and tested kiln drying process helps us to achieve a guaranteed moisture content of less than 20%. You can expect a minimum moisture content that is in the range of 10% to 14%.  

Uncontrolled moisture in logs can lead to warping, cracking, decay and the wood taking longer to burn as it takes up more time drying itself than actually burning. Hence, why are we diligent about reducing moisture so that you receive logs that use a minimum amount of time drying and more time burning.

Strength and Stability

Kiln drying helps to maintain the wood’s original structure and prevent any noticeable shrinking and changes in shape that occur as wood dries. Logs will also become denser as the kiln drying process reduces its moisture content – making for stronger logs able to withstand heavier loads without breaking. 

Pest Control 

Kiln’s are a great environment for pest elimination. The high temperatures in the kiln make it impossible for any pests, insects, and fungi to survive and damage logs.
